Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty to unfold the mystery behind the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri in The Tashkent Files!
Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty |
Our 2nd PM Lal Bahadur Shashtri died mysteriously in
Tashkent. Was it a heart attack or poison? Even after 52 yrs, the truth of the
biggest cover-up of free India has been denied to his family, followers, and
citizens. After a number of biopics on sports personalities, filmmakers are
prepping up to have a film on a man from the golden history of India. A Lal Bahadur Shastri film is in works that will see Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun
Chakraborty unite for director Vivek Agnihotri this year. We are already excited
to see these two legendary actors sharing the screen space. Do you remember
Vivek Agnihotri announcing the film last year in January during the occasion of
Shastri`s death anniversary? Well! It took him a year to finalize the cast.
About
Tashkent Files
The Tashkent Files will be themed on the mysterious death of
Lal Bahadur Shastri. He was India`s second prime minister who passed away in
Uzbekistan in 1966 after signing the Tashkent declaration with Pakistan.
Shastriji`s death has been a big mystery and there have been a lot of theories
around it. There are two narratives to any controversy. As a citizen, it is our
democratic right to know if our 2nd Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastriji
died a natural death, or, as alleged, was it an assassination? This film will
narrate the two sides of the story to the audience. A 52-year long mystery will
be solved in this film. The Tashkent Files is the country’s first crowd-sourced
thriller.
The actor who will play the role of Lal Bahadur Shastri
hasn`t been finalized yet. Agnihotri has crowd sourced all the information on
Shastri and said it helped him a lot during the research for the plot. "I
received a lot of emails, which helped me do thorough research on the project.
The film is almost a citizen investigation report. I believe this is the most
researched work on Shastriji. This is the most apolitical film about a
political leader," he said.
Both Naseeruddin and Mithun are powerhouses and were obvious
choices for the film. This film also brings them together onscreen after a long
time. The two are extremely excited about the project and we are sure the
audience will be waiting to see them in this new avatar.
Films
starring Mithun Chakraborty and Naseeruddin Shah:
1. Khwab(1980)-Shakti Samanta/Average
Khwab is a Family love story which turns into a suspense
thriller in the end. The courtroom scenes in the Climax were well appreciated!
The film was loosely based on the 1951 film "A place in the sun"
starring Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor. Though the original film ends
with Montgomery`s character being sent to the electric chair for Shelley`s
murder, the Hindi version saves our hero. It is proved that Shelley`s character
played by Yogita Bali died of an accident and Montgomery`s character played by Mithun
Chakraborty could not save her because he couldn`t swim. Elizabeth Taylor`s
character was played by Ranjeeta. Naseeruddin Shah`s was introduced as Yogita
Bali`s brother in this film.
2. Hum Paanch(1981)-S.K.
Bapu/Super-Hit
This film is a remake of 1978 Kannada film Paduvaaralli
Pandavaru and was an adaptation of the Mahabharata, fit to a rural scenario
with some hints to the various clashes between the Pandavas and the Kauravas
and to the characters in the epic. Mithun Chakraborty (Bhima) is a slave to
Thakur. Whereas Naseeruddin Shah (Suraj) plays the protagonist in this!
3. Ghulami(1985)-J.P. Dutta/Average
Ghulami is the story of oppression, feudalism, and a band of
intrepid Brave hearts that rebel against the tyranny. In a way, it is the sort of epic drama, which
mixes up all the ingredients- action, drama, romance, tragedy, pathos to come
out with a masterpiece that does not let you go. It focuses on a young boy who
grows up to rebel against the cruel landowners, who have been ripping of poor farmers.
Mithun Chakraborty played the protagonist, a villager who has returned home
after serving in the army and Naseeruddin Shah as Thakur Sultan Singh, the
antagonist.
